Director of Finance
Berggruen Gallery

Overview
The Berggruen Gallery is looking to hire a Director of Finance to manage its finance and accounting areas. The successful candidate will have a solid financial background, including solid knowledge of US GAPP, internal controls, and financial reporting while ensuring transparency, oversight, sustainability, and compliance.

Responsibilities
Responsible for day-to-day activities of the accounting and finance function to ensure accurate recording, posting, processing, reconciling, analyzing, valuation, and reporting of all financial transactions and information.
Prepare and oversee the preparation of monthly journal entries and account reconciliations, including but not limited to banking, investments, prepaid assets, fixed assets, and accruals using General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Provide overall financial oversight on regulations, monitor fiscal practices and internal controls. Oversee all financial aspects and gallery accounting functions and audit all General Journal Entries (GJE’s) for accuracy and timeliness; review and post entries; schedule reconciliations.
Ensure that the gallery’s financial condition is per the guidelines established by the Gallery Director and maintain accounting systems and ensure appropriate internal controls and financial procedures.
Comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting. Coordinates and leads the annual audit process with the external auditors. Prepare financial statements and other financial reporting for both internal and external users. Manage banking, investment, credit, vendor, customer, and insurance relationships, contracts, and policies.
Oversee and lead annual budgeting and planning processes in conjunction with the Gallery Director, maintain budget and forecast models; administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes. Participate in budget meetings, review quarterly results, and communicate budget variances, including exhibitions, fairs, and special projects.
Manage banking relationships to optimize service and minimize the cost to the gallery, banking functions, including day-to-day cash flow requirements, and effectively manage the line of credit, incoming and outgoing wires, and daily and monthly bank reconciliations. Direct cash activities to maintain appropriate cash levels in line with cash management and banking policies, procedures, and protocols by ensuring that all banking documents are appropriately matched with associated backup and filed accordingly (specific attention to inventory purchases, artist and consignee payments).
Administer, organize and advise on payroll and benefits in conjunction with third-party vendors, including health insurance, pre-, and post-tax benefits, bonuses, commissions, and 401K programs. Act as the Gallery’s liaison to the outsourced payroll provider and resolve employee payroll-related inquiries. Ensure the Gallery is in full compliance with all Federal, State, and Municipal regulations. Work closely and transparently with all external partners, including third-party vendors and consultants. Oversee administrative functions as well as facilities to ensure efficient and consistent operations.

Qualifications
Minimum of a BA, ideally with an MBA/CPA or related degree
At least seven to 10 years of overall professional experience; ideally six-plus years of broad financial and operations management experience
Must possess a professional and positive demeanor, be highly detail-oriented with the ability to work well under pressure, and multi-task in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Be agile, demonstrating a comfort level with ambiguity by acting and reacting with flexibility and approaching problems from different perspectives with a solution orientation.
Up-to-date knowledge of accounting practices, internal controls, GAAP, and compliance
Able to provide operational-level direction to the gallery’s financial activities growth.
Oversee administrative functions as well as facilities to ensure efficient and consistent operations.
Experience organizational and management skills who is efficient with QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel, and Word. Previous art gallery and Art System application experience are ideal.
